Kathy and Tom Kilroy, Portland, OR

Excerpt from A Home Away in Alaska Beyond - March 2017 by Susan Hauser

At Toscana Country Club, in Indian Wells, California, the sunshine, peacefulness and camaraderie with neighbors make for a great experience for Kathy and her husband, Tom, at their second home. They already loved the Palm Springs area after many golf vacations with their three daughters. Then friends recommended they look for a place of their own, and all roads led to Toscana. Kathy and Tom bought in 2012 and now have their own 3,600-square-foot Tuscan-style villa with plenty of room for their adult children.

"It was like we'd come to Tuscany," says Kathy. "It's gorgeous, and the architecture is really beautiful." With golf, pickleball, hiking, biking and myriad social activities, such as luncheons, art galas and cooking competitions, Kathy says, "There's so much going on here, we can't fit another thing into our schedule."

Wilf & Marg Gobert - Calgary, Alberta Canada
A prized golf experience headlines the activities at Toscana Country Club, but its list of things to do and see drives well beyond the tee box.  -By Josh Skapin, Calgary Herald - August 2015Diverse activities has helped make the California get-away a desired landing spot for a number Calgarians, including Wilf and Marg Gobert. “I’m an avid golfer, and my wife (isn’t),” says Wilf. “We needed a place that combined the aspects of some recreation beside golf, but golf in particular.” “We have embraced it and fallen in love with it,” says Wilf. His passion for golf is satisfied by two Jack Nicklaus designed courses.

In terms of what the couple enjoys together, Wilf points to Spa Bella Vita and the Toscana Sports and Tennis Club. Three winters ago, the couple got into cycling. “Cycling is wonderful aerobic, physical exercise for people as you get older,” Wilf says. “As a result of our sports club, we have been doing some amazing trips.”

This includes everything from day trips to two or three nights away in various locations around Southern California. They also have more extensive outings, including France last year and Croatia this year. “It’s adventure cycling,” Wilf adds.

Other activities at the development include technology classes, Spanish lessons, film club events, tennis tournaments, hikes and yoga retreats.  Read Entire Article.

Jim and Sherri Meeks  - Indian Wells, California

Excerpt from A Golden Eighteen - 2014

Members Jim and Sherri Meeks say they eat dinner at the club twice a week and have lunch there three or four times a week, despite the fact that there is no food minimum. “We are very health conscious,” Sherri says, and Chef is very accommodating with special needs and requests.” The Meeks seem to enjoy every aspect of the club, however, not just the dining. “I use the spa a lot,” Sherri says, “and we find ourselves going to the fitness center four or five days a week.” In fact, Jim and other members affectionately call Toscana “Camp Toscana,”. “We looked at a lot of places, but Toscana is a hidden gem,” Jim says. “It doesn’t always show up on the GPS, which is a good thing.” Sherri recounts when their realtor was taking them to various developments in the area, they hadn’t heard about Toscana. “She said, ‘just give me 10 minutes to show you something.’ We came through those gates, and I was at home. I said, ‘OK, this will do.’ ”

They started playing golf at Blackhawk in the East Bay outside of San Francisco and fell in love with the game. They also fell in love with Toscana. “So we bought a lot and built a home here,” Jim says. He’s a 16-handicapper and Sherri’s a 17. “We just feel so fortunate to have found this place,” Sherri says. “There’s no pettiness, no backstabbing, no cliquishness.” There is a game every day for the men called the Peppers, and there is always a net Skins Game, $35 per man. The women play Toss Up on Fridays. “We put names on balls—A and B players together—toss them up, see where they fall, and you’re partners for that day,” Sherri says. “We match cards against everybody. It’s really a lot of fun.”

Canucks take a dip into lush Indian Wells' -By Josh Skapin, Calgary Herald - August 2013

“They bring in really good people with expertise in these areas and provide that to the membership.” Toscana has clubs for cycling and hiking along with spa and health club facilities that Bill calls, “absolutely world class.”

"You don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy Toscana or the valley, it fulfills so many other areas as far as your wants and needs in retirement,” adds Bill.

But the draw of Toscana’s two 18-hole golf courses wasn’t lost on the MacDonalds. The course was planned by professional golf icon Jack Nicklaus.

“I’m a very avid golfer keen on all aspects of golf, the history and everything else,” says Bill.

“So to have Jack Nicklaus design the course and actively participate on site … he spent a lot of time with us members, telling us why he designed it a certain way and what his intentions were.  Click to read more.
